Known in Greek mythology as the deity of agriculture, crops, and fertility of the earth, this interpretation of Demeter finds its inspiration in a symbolic figure called Bescherkind. This character represents the Baby Jesus and is part of the Christmas tradition of the Sorbs, a Slavic people who inhabit the region of Lusatia, in eastern Germany.

The Bescherkind, and therefore Demeter, symbolize in this work fertility, prosperity, and rebirth, in an exercise of reinterpretation and adaptation of symbols and traditions from various cultural and temporal contexts.
